What to say about JD? He was the first person I met at WHS - I was looking for a Mr Day and met John. Much confusion followed until he explained that it was 'Diddy' Day I needed. I didn't realise at the time what a huge influence JD would be in my life. He was always supportive and was instrumental in helping me onto the career ladder - even if it was Records of Achievement!! He always found time to listen, to support, encourage and to give wise counsel and for that I am truly grateful. He had a great sense of humour - even on the odd occasion things went wrong. I remember one year when the School diary had Christmas Day marked down in September. He was very cross, but took it in good humour when we told him that although we knew he was important, we didn't think even HE had the power to move Christmas Day!! Who can ever forget him walking in with the sub list dressed in a red jumper and a pair of red tights on the Day we broke up for Christmas? (I should explain that all staff had been asked to wear something red that day). He was difficult man to keep up with - quite literally at times. When on Scotland camp John promised us a 'gentle stroll' up the Merrick. He then proceeded to practically run up it and left the rest of trailing in his wake - I seem to think I refused to look at the view from the top I was so shattered! So many memories about the legend that is JD. He touched so many people's lives for the good. He could see the strengths in people - both staff and pupils - even if they could not see them themselves. He was an absolute inspiration and I feel privileged to have known and worked with him. I shall always remember his oratory, bonhomie, dedication, support and wicked sense of humour. Huge respect !! Sending much love to Melanie, Hannah and Matt at this very sad time. xxx R.I.P John Jean
