There has been a sense of shock from my sons, Jonathan and Simon, who both went through the WHS Sixth Form and my daughter-in-law, Charlotte, who spent her entire secondary education at Wales. My wife, Pauline, recalls John from when she did supply teaching in the early 80s. I worked with John from 1974 to 2002 and was always rather in awe of him. He was a force of nature and the school will certainly never see his like again. The sense of shock has propelled its waves extremely wide and extremely quickly. It is not hundreds or even thousands who will have been upset to hear the news across the communities but will run into many thousands. Teachers like me may eventually be forgotten but nobody whoever met John is ever likely to forget him. May he rest in Peace. Les and Pauline Arnott
